For the climbing I did one second intervals with a half second exposure.
And for the clouds, which were moving slower I did three second intervals with one and a half second exposures.
If something moves fast, like people or vehicles then I’d use an interval of one second. For slow subjects like clouds, stars or tides then I’d vary the interval time to maybe between three and ten seconds or longer.
I basically follow the formula of half exposure time in relation to interval time. This allows for the illusion of fluid motion. Unless you use ND filters then you will get exposure times of hundredths of a second. This creates short robotic jerky footage, normally captured on mobile phones or action cameras set into auto time lapse mode. Nothing wrong with this, it’s just a limitation of the tools that you have at the time.
To get such long exposures during bright light I used a combination of two ND filters, 3 stop and 6 stop.
