Looking at some photos my father-in-law took way back in Zaire (now DR or Congo). It’s labelled “Kitazungburna”, I think, but nothing comes up on Google. Mega photo, before the phrase “elf n safety” was discovered. Any volcanologists out there? Just photo’s the photo on my phone, will scan them at some point.
Having looked again at your shots I think it is definitely Nyiragongo although never seen it referred to by another name. I walked up it in 2016; very spectacular and memorable. Has since erupted (this year) so not sure how significantly things will have changed. Great country, if a bit unstable!
