I've searched the forums but all responses were old and inconclusive. Does anyone have a recommendation of a provider that covers ice climbing? My current plan is ACC + travel insurance + GHIC card. BMC is prohibitively expensive, almost £500 for three weeks cover

By ACC did you mean AAC - Austrian Alpine Club Britannia section? Their document states:
"The insurance protection also extends to accidents that occur
when taking part in the activity of mountain climbing with
exceptional risk (climbing at difficulty level 5 UIAA and up,
free solo ascents (unsecured climbing) and icefall climbing)."

Note that there are restrictions (The Arctic and Greenland, peaks over 6000m etc.) though they have extra insurance for that.  Check out the rest of the document here:

Do you have some sort of unmentioned criteria causing this? Out of curiosity I just did a quick BMC quote for a three week European trip in January and it was £120.

Yes I meant the AAC. Yes read the policy but was after some alternative options

BMC must have put up their costs substantially then. I used the BMC for a week in Rjukan in Feb 2019. and remember it being pretty reasonable.

Edit: Just checked my emails, and I paid £78 for a week back then

I use CAF - Club alpin francais. Pretty sure they have documentation in English too.

Are you off to the US perchance?

Edit, just seen you said Europe, it should be about £120?
