I've searched the forums but all responses were old and inconclusive. Does anyone have a recommendation of a provider that covers ice climbing? My current plan is ACC + travel insurance + GHIC card. BMC is prohibitively expensive, almost £500 for three weeks cover
By ACC did you mean AAC - Austrian Alpine Club Britannia section? Their document states: "The insurance protection also extends to accidents that occur when taking part in the activity of mountain climbing with exceptional risk (climbing at difficulty level 5 UIAA and up, free solo ascents (unsecured climbing) and icefall climbing)."

Do you have some sort of unmentioned criteria causing this? Out of curiosity I just did a quick BMC quote for a three week European trip in January and it was £120.
