Trying to plan a train journey from Wigan to Leuchars tomorrow (Saturday), and anticipating disruption. What’s the best way to find out whether or not trains are running, specifically Edinburgh Haymarket to Leuchars?

I think Leuchars is just outside the red area but honestly I wouldn't. There is a lot of advice asking people not to move around and the flooding is really serious just North of there.

In general try Transport Scotland on Twitter

Or Scotrail

Edit. Trains are off North of Edinburgh. Possibly buses.

It’s an awkward one, not essential, but my wife is travelling up to spend a few days with her dad (caring duties - he’s 87 and has dementia), so very important. No doubt we’ll have to check first thing tomorrow.

In reply to Bottom Clinger:

All Fife trains are presently cancelled and as far as I know that includes tomorrow.

You could check again in the morning - https://www.nationalrail.co.uk/ . I used this for checking just now for tomorrow Edinburgh to Leuchars and all were saying cancelled although there is a possibility of bus replacement mid afternoon.

Good luck. Things are not good up here.

Would it be possible for you to drive? I was working at a center in Perth and Kinross yesterday and the group who were leaving were returning to Peterhead and Aberdeen areas. Their bus drivers did get down and were predicting around 5 hours to get home. There were enough roads open to make it feasible, but it wasn't the main roads.

I suspect for something important like caring duties, you could get through somehow, with care. Obviously, they don't want lots of people on the roads, but some people really don't have much choice.
