Setting off from Coniston to Fort William. Get back ache in car so dont want any big detours. Want to break the journey up with a night's camping. (Small tent). Thought of around Loch Lomond or maybe southern uplands. Online seem to mainly caravan only. Any ideas. Thanks.

If your back will hold out that far, when I was knocking off Munros (20 years ago!) we often used to camp at Strathfillan Wigwams between Crianlarich and Tyndrum. I've just looked at their website and it looks like £20 a night to camp. Back in the day there used to be a communal kitchen for campers. Good place to watch the West Highland Wayfarers limping along.

There is one at the North of Loch Lomond (Beinglas), it has an ok pub on site.

This one is just outside Abington, seems to Camping and Caravanning Club:

There's a campsite in Moffat which isn't far off the motorway. I've stopped around Moffat a few times to break journeys although not in the campsite. It's a nice wee place and there's the option of doing a hill too.

Thanks for all the great ideas. Have settled for site next to Loch Lomond in Luss. But will bear in mind  other ideas for future reference.

Thanks for the advice. Is it noisy at night?
