Has anyone walked on the Long Mynd? Just toying with the idea of three or four days in the area and would appreciate any suggestions along with accommodation - not too expensive.

Thanks

Stayed at a nice campsite in Little Stretton some time ago. Ideally placed for the Long Mynd but also Caer Caradoc  and the Lawley.

And a traverse of the Stiperstones which is pretty rough going. We stayed in a lovely cottage on Wenlock Edge Edge which meant dog walking on the doorstep. A lovely area to explore. And don't forget to visit Ludlow.

Some walk suggestions.

Park in Carding Mill (National Trust, cafe) walk up past Lightspout Waterfall, to top of Long Mynd (Pole Bank) and return down Ashes hollow, then back through park to Carding Mill.

Park at south end of Stiperstones, do a clockwise circuit via Mytton Dingle and back over the Stiperstones, great views and some scrambling if you want it.

The Lawley circuit from the parking at Lawley, anticlockwise is good.

Caer Caradoc from All Stretton or Willstone, great views of the Long Mynd.

In reply to phizz4: I grew up in Little Stretton. One of the best and lesser known walks from there is to turn left at the entrance to Ashes Hollow (just before the farm) and follow the steep path up the side of the tributary. You sre then treated to great views over Minton Batch and Callow Hollow on the way to the trig point.

For accommodation the pub at Marshbrook has some camper pods popular with mountain bikers

My first ever hill walking was on the Long Mynd, lovely high moors walking! (maybe '79? maybe '80?). Get out there and enjoy...

The Lawley has to be one of the finest small hills anywhere! The Long Mynd has some great trail running/walking - Ashes Hollow/the spur above Little Stretton, Stiperstones, Brown Clee from Nordy Bank, Titterstone Clee has great views but much mucked about

This, the Lawley is my favourite hill in Shopshire.

If if you want a long hike, try “The Shropshire Peaks”, 6 hills higher than 1500 feet. Corndon (actually in Wales, just.), the Stipperstones, the Long Mynd, Caer Caradoc, Brown Clee and Titterston Clee. This was publicised in The Sunday Mercury in the 70s. The walk starts at the bottom of Corndon and finishes at the top of Titterston Clee, approximately 36 miles.

My wife is local. She always called Ashes Hollow , Pussy Cat Valley. Thought this was some sort of local thing, but no. It was just full of cats when she first went as a little girl

In reply to toad: there is a red brick house in the entrance to Ashes Hollow. At the time (1970s) there was a “mad cat woman” in residence who fed and sustained an exponentially growing community of feral cats
