Has anyone done Beinn Liath Mhor from the north, rather than the usual approach from Achnashellach?

I can see there is a path marked on the OS map from the Ling Hut towards Coire Grannda at the west end of Beinn Liath Mhor. Is there a sensible way up from there?

In reply to Harry Jarvis:

Yes, it's pretty easy to get up onto the summit from there.

Presumably it is just a question of picking the most attractive looking line?

In reply to Harry Jarvis:

Yes, it's mostly just scree.

And there I was hoping for solid rock ...

Yes, it's fine, a bit stony, but less loose scree than the normal route. You can make a nice round over Sgorr nan Lochan Uaine: there is a straightforward grassy descent from the first col heading east from the summit of BLM to the eastern outflow from Lochan Uaine.

In reply to Harry Jarvis:

Yep, it's a reasonable approach, stony on top.

Nice to add Sgor nan Lochain Uaine.

Doubt you'll be able to walk on the intervening lochans like we did mind you.

I did Beinn Liath Mhor and Sgorr Ruadh from the Ling Hut in 1995. I remember the approach was like walking across a giant sponge!

Thank you. I shall consider that option. It may depend on circumstances on the day, but circuits and rounds are always more satisfying than simple out-and-backs.

Thank you. What a marvellous day you had!

Looking at the map, I did wonder if that might be the case!
