Looking for information on mountaineering venues in Austria. I've heard Ortles and Silvretta but other than that, my knowledge is quite limited. Looking for snow.

More so than you think; Ortles is in Italy!

What are you looking for? Most of south-eastern Austria is mountainous with lots of glaciated areas. The obvious answers would be the Glockner massif, the Stubai Alps and the Otztäler Alps. Haven't been to the former but the two latter are lovely areas with mountaineering outings of various character and level.

Fill your boots.  As a famously mountainous country Austria has a bit to go at

Alpine. In the Spring.

In reply to wbo2:

Thanks where's a good place to base yourself for Alpine stuff?

Well, be prepared to bring you skis or snowshoes but I'd say Ötztal or Stubaital are good bets. Just be aware that huts might still be closed (winter rooms might be open in some cases, always check).
