Science and Islam is an exploration by Jim Al-Khalili of the astonishing development of science and mathematics in the Islamic empire from its early years until the 12th century. I'd missed it first time around but as it has been repeated recently it's currently available on the I Player. Even being aware of the importance of Islamic scientific and mathematics development, and translation of ideas from across the world, this show really surprised me. I'd say it's essential viewing for anyone seriously interested in the history of the development of modern science.

I'll try to watch that. Interesting how Islam encouraged the flowering of science in that period while Christianity has generally restricted science throughout much of its history. That, even though Islam is generally considered the religion more prone to fundamentalism today.

That gets covered briefly at the end of the third episode.

This sounds familiar.  (If it starts with Jim sketching a building in the distance?)

I'm going to watch it again....I enjoyed it.
