Based on the trail experiences of her creator Geolyn Carvin, Boots McFarland is an outdoor-loving cartoon character who has been hiking the wilds of the US for over 15 years. Geolyn's new book is a collection of comics capturing the highs and lows of backpacking life, interspersed with entries from her own Pacific Crest Trail hiking journal. We asked her for a sneak peek.

In January 2002 Geolyn began section hiking the Pacific Crest Trail. As she hiked she wrote a journal documenting her many adventures. Passing these short stories around for all to read, it became apparent that it was comedy. This is how "Boots" McFarland was born.
