For the last few years the charity Respect the Mountains has run an environmental event called Envirotrek in various European mountain resorts. Envirotrek, which has been financially supported by Keen footwear, fuses litter collection and outdoor activities in a summer celebration of collective activism. This year, for the first time in the UK, Envirotrek is going to run in the Peak District National Park.
Participants spend a couple of hours in the morning collecting litter from popular climbing venues then, after a barbeque lunch and have a chance to try an outdoor activity in the local area.
The UK event is being run by Peak Mountaineering and will be based in Bamford. We will be collecting litter from around the local crags and then participants can try climbing, mountain biking, navigation skills training or caving in the afternoon. We have planned the day so the activity sessions won't cause any conflict with other outdoor users at popular venues and hope that as many people as possible will support the event.
