We are looking for a highly organised, natural leader who is psyched for climbing!

The role of the Centre Manager is varied and exciting. They are responsible for the management and leadership of the staff team and implementing the vision and mission on the ground. You will support the General Manager to implement the company strategy on the ground and provide a valuable feedback channel for progress and any potential barriers. Operationally, the Centre Manager oversees HR, Health and Safety and drives projects forward to build on our climbing community!  

The outgoing Centre Manager, we are proud to say, is becoming the General Manager of the Flashpoint Group and will be your line manager. So you can expect to be well supported by her when you take over her old centre. 

Job Title: Centre Manager
Salary: 30k – 32k per annum (dependant on experience)
Working hours: 40 per week on a flexi-time basis. Some evening and weekend work is required.
Holiday allowance: 30 days (this includes bank holidays)
Start Date: Feb/March 2022 or as soon as possible to allow for handover

Day to day operations

Being a calm, positive and approachable manager and leader, the Centre Manager will support staff with the day to day running of the centre. Responsible for the quality of all products, services and facilities ensuring customers have a positive experience in our centre.

Line Manager 

The Centre Manager supports, develops and sets clear team and individual targets to the:

Deputy Centre Manager
Head Coach
Reception Manager 
Cafe Manager 
Operations Manager
Events coordinator

The Centre Manager also provides line management to the Duty Management Team, supported by the Departmental Managers (above) in their respective areas. To share the load with the Centre Manager, to provide increased support and guidance to the team and to develop inhouse management experience, the Deputy Manager will be the line manager to the “All Rounder” team who are trained for both reception and instruction.

Legal & Safety

The Centre Manager ensures all staff understand and work to all relevant Risk Assessments, Procedures and Policies. Recording and reporting incidents and accidents will help the team to spot patterns and implement improvements in our operations and documents. The Centre Manager will work closely with the Departmental Managers to ensure we are operating high safety standards in areas such as Instructing, Building Maintenance and PPE inspections.

Human Resources and Staff Welfare

With the assistance of the Deputy Centre Manager and wider management team, the Centre Manager is responsible for implementing robust HR procedures across the centre, these should ensure staff are performing to the best of their ability, treated fairly, consistently and in line with employment legislation and within our culture of learning and development. The Centre Manager will be responsible for staff wellbeing – overseeing the staff welfare system with the Deputy they will provide a way for staff to communicate welfare concerns confidentially.

Leadership

Displaying excellent leadership and professionalism, the Centre Manager creates a friendly and supportive place to work where everyone understands and works towards common goals. The Centre Manager has a previous and detailed understanding of instruction, operations and reception and may need to step in to work in these areas to lead on the ground and maintain connection with the team. They will provide support and coaching to the wider team to help them develop their own skills, management and leadership.

Diary Planning and Budgeting

Creating the rota and timetables for our instruction programs and operations will be an important part of this role. The Centre Manager predicts and reacts to fluctuating capacity requirements to ensure productivity and adherence to budgets.

Communication Systems

Creating communication pathways and scheduling regular meetings with the team, the Centre Manager ensures staff are informed of changes and there is also ample time for their feedback. Encouraging collaboration between departments will help everyone to work together as a team effectively.

Project Management / Community Building

As the link between departments, the Centre Manager acts as a project manager and coordinator. We have a community focus and an Events Coordinator who organises community and staff events, the Centre Manager will support them and provide the resources needed to succeed. The Centre Manager will ensure that Redpoint is accessible and welcoming to people from all walks of life and ensure we continue to develop an interesting and diverse staff team and customer base. 

Desirable Qualities

Full of ideas to enhance the community
HR qualification (CIPD)
Fluent in the use of RGP (customer management software)
Experience with  scheduling software, ideally Planday
Climbing Coaching qualifications
PPE Inspection experience 

Essential Qualities

Natural leader
Highly organised with ability to multi-task and prioritise workload
Climber and/or active part of the climbing community
Previous management experience working in a busy climbing wall/leisure environment
HR experience
Experience with rota planning and scheduling
Previous line management responsibilities
CWI / CWDI Qualification or similar
