Higher than surrounding tors, and with a cooler climate, Kilmar consists of a complex ridge of buttresses and boulders accessed by a longer and steeper walk-in from the parking. Once you get your bearings, it will be easy to spend a whole day here as you start to identify key features. From the parking area the view of the ridge is foreshortened and as you walk up the farmer's track, more and more of the ridge is exposed. The majority of the bouldering is located on the north side of the ridge.
Best in the Spring, Autumn and Winter when the ferns are down, temperatures are lower and the ticks are (hopefully) less prevalent. Be careful not to step into any hidden holes of which there are many!
Limited parking at the end of the pot-holed metalled road before the cattle grid. There is some additional parking further back down the road.
Park considerately as this small parking area is sometimes shared by walkers, boulderers and shooting enthusiasts (amongst others). Don't park in front of the farmer's gates (which are signed as such) and don't park on the moor as the track is maintained by the farmer.
