Hill features

A fine summit dwarfed by the bulk of Aonach Beag but gives excellent views down into Glen Nevis and Steall Meadow. The climbs are on the obvious big silvery grey sweep of slabs and ribs and easily seen from Steall Ruin. The three routes on the main slab all share a useful large boulder belay at the top and a few meters back with 60m ropes being useful to reach it.

The crag offers slabby and bold climbing but the angle is never too steep and the friction is good with a mix of quartzite and schist, although the routes are fairly high up and a bit dirty in places. The climbs are interesting and open, if escapable, but it is a fairly long walk past many good crags in the glen!

Approach notes

Approach through Steall Gorge and along to the ruin from where the crag is obvious on the hillside above, follow the broad ridge to the right of the Allt Coire nan Laogh before striking up steep slopes to the crag (around 1 hour 30 minutes).

Descent is easiest by traversing right (looking up; left from the top of The Big Ribeye) into a narrow heather filled gully and carefully descending this back to the base. Alternatively head left to reach the hillside and easily down.

No doubt this crag has been climbed on before seen as how prominent it is from Steall Ruin but there is no record of the routes. Let me know if you have climbed here before and if the lines match up with the what I've put in the descriptions. Probably a worthwhile venue for some solo exploits followed by a wander up to the summit of Aonach Beag.
