St Anchorite's Rock and Hermit Arete © Kafoozalem
The rock is a fine grained igneous intrusion of dolerite which has been quarried on its northern side. The first two climbs face north and can be accessed from the field on the left as you approach the crag or by abseiling from the top. Ivy is easily removed from the smooth rock if it has taken hold.
Park up on the coast road 2 miles east of Noss Mayo/Newton Ferrers at a footpath giving access to the coast path. Follow this east for 0.6 miles to the rock which is an obvious landmark.
The bouldering lies 400m west-southwest of St. Anchorites on a rocky outcrop on a ridge. Start descending the west side of the ridge on a large track and then traverse the cliff edge eastward before heading back uphill to the landward block.
There has been a report of climbers being asked to leave from the main crag. St. Anchorites Rock is close to the South West Coastal Path (20-30m) but apparantly on private land. Please comply with any landowner instructions. No reported issues for the Hermit Arete bouldering.
