The Pompey Wall offers delightful short pitches, some of which give good testing moves. The granite has been sea washed to a very smooth texture, more like Glacier Point Apron than Bosigran.
Approach from the road end at Porth Nanven at the mouth of the lovely Cot Valley. From the parking, cross a footbridge and walk south along the Coast Path for about 500m to where the path turns sharply to the left up some rock steps. Follow a subsidiary path leading directly ahead towards a rocky ridge. From a point just before the rocky ridge, follow a faint path down steeply to the right over stony ground; then move down left to a boulder-strewn ledge above Pompey Wall. Alternatively for Rock-a-bye area walk/scramble north (rightwards when looking out) along the boulder beach for 5 or 10 minutes.
Winter 2014 Storm Damage update: A slab of rock has peeled of the right hand side of the crag, taking some of the corner with it. This has erased routes such as Box, Fingernail and Exit. Sad times :( Chimnastics - 27/Jun/14 |
