The Pinnacles Hut Area has two rock types - Agglomerate pinnacles containing sport routes nearest the hut and columnar rhyolite walls higher up the hill with mostly trad crack and corner climbing.
Good topo here.
Follow the Pinnacles Hut track from the Sharplin Falls carpark. This takes 2-3 hours to get to the Pinnacles Hut. The Pinnacles are 10 minutes walk uphill from the hut and 20 minutes plus to the upper walls.
The Pinnacles Hut is a serviced hut. Bring sleeping bag, food and stove. Hut has water, bunks with mattresses, wood burner and emergency radio.
Hut Rules:
- Clean up after yourself
- Use the toilet privided
- DO NOT SKIP PAYING HUT FEES!
Hut tickets can be bought locally at Staveley or Mount Somers stores, from DOC offices or from Bivouac / Macpac in Christchurch.
