Restricted Access
Access to the summit itself is restricted. For the trail (Sendero) No 10, which leads up the last 200 m to the summit, a free permit is required and is checked for.
Numbers are normally restricted to 200 per day. Due to the limititation, please reserve your permit (especially during high season) 6 to 8 weeks in advance.
If staying in the Altavista hut you don't need a permit, but you must have left the trail by 9 am.
Alternatively wait until the rangers take the last cable car down. (16:50 pm resp. 18:50 pm).
Park your car at one of the car parks next to the Parador Nacional de la Cañadas hotel (2.143 m) and follow the stream of tourist towards the Roques de Garcia. In front of these rock formation the circular trail ("Sendero") No 3 starts. You can follow it either left or right, where as the right way is slightly shorter. Half way of the circular the trail No 23 starts (2.232 m) and takes you further north just a few meters below the summit of Pico Viejo (3.135 m). At this point join the trail No 9 and head towards Teide until you reach the Mirador de Pico Viejo (3.528 m). Then take the short path No 12 to La Rambletas (3.550 m). From there the trail (No 10) takes you up to the summit of Teide (3.718 m).
