El Salto is the premier sport climbing area in Mexico, comprised of a collection of crags around 1.5 hours south of Monterrey. The climbing season runs from late October to March, with crowds of Americans making the pilgrimage down from the US in late Dec-Feb (i.e. expect crowds during this time!). As of October 2023 there is no guidebook, but topos can be found online. All of the crags are walking distance from the small town of La Ciénega de González, and there are a number of cabañas or campgrounds to pick from for accommodation. The climbing style varies between crags, but expect vertical to steep limestone, with pockets, crimps and lots of tufas!
