A typical route at Meliden Quarry. © rockcat
A useful novice top-roping venue, a handful of short sport routes and a fine little bouldering wall. This small quarry is of mainly local interest and is often used by local outdoor groups and schools.
The quarry is west-facing and is well-sheltered by the surrounding hillside. The climbing is confined to the lower half of the crag, the upper area being looser and more vegetated.
Approach along the A547 from Rhuddlan or Dyserth; enter the village of Meliden and just after the 2nd pelican crossing, turn right into Ffordd Tanrallt; if you pass the Miner's Arms on the left, you've gone too far. Go under a bridge and turn left into a narrow lane marked 'No Through Road'. Follow this to parking bays at its end.
Hi, yes some good climbing but there was a tragic accident a month or so a go when a 14 year old local boy fell to his death 30 odd meters. Dave Ogof - 21/Nov/11 |
