Added to UKC for seekers of the absurd. Most of the quarry is dangerously loose, as is evidence by the sorry state of the routes (lower off on a block on the floor!) and rockfalls which have occurred over the years.
The main quarry is popular with absilers who the National Trust tolerate using the most stable part of the quarry.
Some of the established routes look safe enough to climb and the quarry may have some limited potential for boulderers or dry toolers.
From the layby on the main road outside the NT bowderstone carpark, pass through two gates into the quarry. 50m along the path is Quay West. Cross the fence to access the climbs at the top of the quarry.
For Cave Quarry, park in the NT car park and cross the fence by the top most parking spot. 30m steeply ahead leads into the quarry. The established climbs were on the slab at the back.
Crag generally in poor condition, with some very large rock falls. Watch out for unstable rock, old, damaged, or rusty bolts.
