Approach notes

From Arenas de Cabrales, head west for 3km on the AS-144 to the village of Carrena. Take the first turning uphill into the village with bank building on the corner. Drive through the cobbled square past covered sports pitch, then keep right steeply uphill to reach another little square and car park in between a church and a museum.

From here take care to follow the directions: Walk up the road for 200m on left of museum, up rightwards past a large block of flats, to reach a concrete track heading up rightwards and out of the village. Pass a mossy concrete water store on the left and, just beyond, a small path heads steeply up left (signposted to crag). Follow this for 150m past a barn and a tiny stream to a broken-down wall on left of path and a right turn (easy to miss). Take right turn. After about 100m the cobbled path trends left and crosses a streambed, continue uphill before entering a more open field (another signpost). Head up the hillside on the right for 50m then cut back up and left across more open hillside towards the now-prominent crag. At the tree line find the ruined house where a line of cairns starting to its left mark the final approach to the base of the crag.
