Crag features

Great DWS crag with heaps of lines to do on quality rock and in the shade from midday. Steep with large pockets and some tufa features which makes for very fun climbing above deep water. (Some very sharp rock in a few places)

Mostly good deep landings but it would be wise to inspect yourself (easiest done early in the day when sun illuminates the water/river bed features) as the crag end closest upstream does have a large hidden boulder underwater in the fall zone of some fun steep easier looking climbs, whilst the other end is very shallow and depending on river height that year could have another hidden underwater boulder.

The climbs shown here are ones to be found above good landings, not known whether they have been climbed before but likely some have as the venue is ideal for dws. Lots of potential for new lines including long hard traverses or hard high climbs taking in more height of the crag.

Grades may vary depending on river level

Approach notes

Multiple ways to approach this crag, probably the easiest although not the quickest (depending on your boat skills) would be to descend the river by canoe.

Another way (1 hour to 1:30) could be to approach by parking on a small road a few hundred metres before reaching the campsite - Mille Etoiles. Then descending into the gorge via a footpath to a large stoney beach with the 'rapide de figueras'. From here follow the path downstream for 10 minutes. If you start ascending steeply for a short way you have likely missed the crag beach and are walking above the crag.

Access Advice

Within the Réserve Naturelle Nationale des Gorges de l'Ardèche - some form of boat is needed for accessing climbs.

Be aware of potential birds nesting in large holes and if so do not disturb - did not encounter any bird presence on routes shown here.

River levels vary year to year a lot so consider depth of water, although photos provided here show a fairly low river level.
