Crag features

An accessible bouldering size outcrop of very solid granitic schist set in the attractive oak woods off Ross Point on east Loch Lomondside. All first ascents were done after abseil inspection and some brushing. Consider taking an ab rope to brush the holds and for descending - the first ascentionist finished climbs at the ledge at 3/4 height and used the ab rope for descent (the top is unfortunately very heavily vegetated with brambles).

Approach notes

Park at the Forestry and Land Scotland (FLS) car park at Sallochy - £3 fee at the time of writing (November 2021). Head north on the West Highland Way (WHW) following the beautiful and intricate shoreline of Loch Lomond round past the Glasgow University ecology field centre. Where the WHW swings northwards up the steep set of steps continue west on the decent forest track. Go up and down two obvious rises. Roughly three quarters of the way down the descent from the second rise, a bluff of schist becomes visible high up on the right capped by an attractive grove of Scots pines. Continue on for another 50m or so round a slight right bend and the bloc becomes visible on the right about 20m above the track. The striking feature of The Ross Point Recluse arête is clearly visible at this point.
