Crag features

Beautiful crag with amazing views over the Perth Hills. Most people come to the Cuthbert Slabs, though there are a few worthwile lines in the boulders near the summit, particularly 'Sultans of Swing' - 18 (trad).

The slabs themselves offer some of the longer routes in the Perth area, with a few approaching 40m. Most climbs are in the lower and medium grades, and most are comfortably bolted. A few have sparse bolting ('Quiver' - 40m and 4 bolts), a few require trad gear and expect the usual amount of carrot bolts in a WA crag.

Approach notes

Turn off the Albany Highway at Herold Rd (dirt track, not sign-posted). Either park there and continue on foot or drive down the track, keeping left at the first junction, until you meet a small parking area on the left, just as the track vaguely splits into 2. Park here if you are't already on foot and follow a faint trail to the right of the track heading straight for Mt Cuthbert. The trail is marked with tape on the trees. When you reach the uphill section Cairns guide you to the right to make your way to the summit and beautiful views of the area.

From the summit Cairn you can either go straight over and abseil off a big boulder 10m down the slope, or you can walk down round the left, hugging the wall. Most people walk down, though it does involve a bit of boulder hoping (easy but not push chair friendly).
