Crag features

The crag sits in a shallow gorge not far from the the small coastal town of Maro near Nerja. The crag sits in a lost of shade, therefore it's a good escape from the heat of the summer but is also sheltered from any wind in the winter. There are 2 seperate sector, the first sector you reach faces N and is the highest sector with routes upto 17m, the routes are a mix of edgy wall climbing with steeper pocketed bulges.

The other sector faces W but is partially shaded by trees. The routes range in length from 8m to 15m and are a mix of pocketed walls, tufa features, and overhangs. Routes on this sector pack quite a lot into a small space.

In the summer this is a great hang out in the morning and gives east access to the beaches to the E of Maro for a swim in the afternoon.

Some climbs added August 2018, but no idea of names so just numbered from left for west and north sectors. Grades a total guess too.

Approach notes

From the A7:

Take the Cuevas de Nerja exit and follow the access road toward Maro, turn R as if toward Nerja. Then follow the directions from the roundabout below.

From Maro:

Follow the N340a as if heading toward Nerja, once passed the roundabout with the access road to the A7 follow the directions from the roundabout below.

From the Roundabout:

Follow the N340a until you see a warning cyclists sign next to a yellow rubish dumping sign, turn R onto the dirt road. Follow the dirt road unti you get to the old works, turn R again. Follow the dirt road until you get to a 'T' junction and a dirt road which runs parrallel to the A7 acccess road. Turn L. Follow the road passed some ruined buildings and you see an underpass, drive through the underpass and follow the road through another underpass. Follow the road round to the L, until you see a steep tarmacced road leading off R. Drive up this and the road soon turns rough again. Follow the dirt track for about 200m until you reach a parking area on the L.

The footpath to the crag starts from here. Follow the obvious trail (marked with white paint spots) for about 10 mins until the path drops down into the Barranco. The North sector is on your L and the W sector across the gorge bed behind some Eucalyptus trees.
