Crag features

Trachyandesite overhanging outcrop, with slab and cracks. Mostly short climbs, 7-8m in length, in the higher grades (6b+ - 8a). Routes are either bolted with chain belay or, because of their short length, top roped from belay chains (or soloed with crashmat).

Approach notes

From the A75 at junction 12, head towards Orbeil on the D9, then, after crossing the river Allier, turn left onto the D14 towards St. Babel. Follow the road up onto the plateau and pass through the village of Naves. Just after (ca. 800m) leaving Naves is a turning on the left signposted Paille. Follow the road for about 2km passing through some woods, a first clearing with meadows, until you come to a second clearing with meadows either side of the road. On the right, a forest track will lead down the edge of the wood (on right hand side) to parking. As these are farm tracks, park sensibly so that agricultural equipment can get through if necessary. The parking area leads to an obvious track which winds it way down the ridge of the hill to a hollow in which the crag is to be found.

Access Advice

The crag, whilst accessible to the public, is by all accounts on private land, and apparently owned by the local outdoor recreation centre Crapa'hutte. It seems that climbing is tolerated as long as it doesn't interfere with their group activities (Via Ferrata equipped rock outcrop nearby), although this may have changed in recent years. There have been reported incidents in the past with inconsiderate climbers, so please be respectful.
