Crag features

An extensive North West facing crag on Arkengarthdale Moor up to 5M in height. The boulders get the sun from the afternoon most of the year though some north walls will need a dry day to climb the problems. The crag is at 640M ASL so any significant snow is slow to melt, with this and limited daylight hours throughout the winter months it is probably best visited from March to October. Try to pick a fairly calm day, any winds forecast for below 12 mph are usually calm enough to enjoy going up.

Take a brush to clean some scrittle off some problems but most faces seem to stay clean.

There's still problems to develop.

Approach notes

Park on the Tan Hill road by the footpath marked William Gill NY 937073 or just east on either side of the road.

Walk up the William Gill footpath negotiating 3 fords along the way (35 minutes). Ignore first track off east (shooting track) and keep going where the track turns into a small path. Cross the river at the abondoned mine and then go directly south over the moor for 20 minutes following several white shooting posts which take a fairly dry route.

No Access Issues

Access land - Usual rules apply ie some closures for shooting and dogs should probably be kept on a lead on the approach.

Is there a topo of the crag, anyone?

Lovely spot with great views and a fine circuit. Unlikely to be crowded.
