Crag features

Monte Vanellamare is an intricate crag of a host of sectors above the Sperlonga - Gaeta road tunnels. Various subsectors are reached by crossing the bridge from the Guido ristoro in the direction of Sperlonga, then backtracking on the other side to the right, and moving up a variety of trails and ledges to the individual subsectors.

The area has been dubbed as Sperlonga or Chiromante earlier and is one of the historical sport crags south of Rome. As such, the climbing is mainly on close to vertical, fingery and sometimes sharp slabs with some strong features thrown in. As usual, the farther (and higher up) you walk, the quieter the subsectors are.

It is one of the three large sectors reached from the Piana Agostino on foot comprising some 700 routes and the only one with a considerable number of multipitch routes both sport and trad. While it may have gon out of fashen due the stile of climbing, it still has a stupendous setting above the sea and good quality rock.

Restricted Access

There is a large sign mentioning fines.

No climbing from 1st January to 31st July in certain sectors because of Falco Pellegrino nest,
