São Luiz do Purunã is about 50km west of Curitiba city, the capital of Paraná State, Brazil. The rock is a solid sandstone and it has six main sectors. You need to drive to go in between sectors. They are all in different private properties, so ask the locals about any access issues before planning a trip to São Luiz.
- Sector 1 is the oldest sector and known as ¨Setor 1, routes are quite short and technical. It gets the sun in the morning. Routes are bolted.
- Sector 2 and 3 are mainly trad climbing.
- Sector 4 is called Canyon da Faxina and unfortunately access is forbidden until there is a formal agreement between owners of the land and the climbing community.
- Sector 5 is known as Curucaca, it is mainly sport but many routes (and some of the best) are mixed so you will need a cam or two. There are many trad routes as well. Grades of trad routes are given as French sport grades. Curucaca is one of the best crags in São Luiz, very solid rock and the main section has a roof at the start so expect to pull hard.
- Sector 6 is known as Ferradura.
Access to sector 4 (Canyon da Faxina) is forbidden until further notice (updated in October 2018). Ask the locals about any access issues of other sectores before heading to São Luiz. You might want to try the staff members at Campo Base climbing wall in Curitiba. Find them on facebook.
