The bridges are built of roughly dressed limestone and offer many routes up to about 6 metres high (the arête of the bridge leading up on to the road above is about 10 metres) or traverses up to 15 metres long. The climbing tends to be steep and fingery. The second bridge is probably the best.

The second bridge has limited access through the farmers field. Follow parallel along the field until you get to the top of the bridge - there is a small section where you can climb over the fence on to the old railway track then use the rope to help you decend down.
Two disused railway bridges just outside the small village of Clifton Reynes, near Olney, about ten minutes' drive from Milton Keynes.
We made a quick trip to this 'crag' July 2011 and happily did find something. Access is confusing. After entering the village do a right opposite the Robin Hood and follow the road round. It goes over the bridge before becoming a dirt track. From what I can tell the 1st and 3rd bridges are in the other directions down the old track bed. Yet to go look though as they're out of view from bridge 2.
The wall is as stated, its pretty cobwebby and sooty but almost unmolested so offers some very fingery traversing. It can be bouldered but I would recommend a mat if going up near the roof. There are some routes higher on the aretes but be careful as a couple of large cornerstones have a lot of air around them. There are 3 bridges the one you drive over is the longest traverse. Be aware of the 2nd bridge as i nearly hit my belayer with a rarther large bit of brickwork (twice).Dont bother with the 3rd bridge it is too over grown. andy marland - 14/Aug/03 |
