Review

Best of Genuss Band 2 is a selected climbs guide covering easier multi-pitch routes in the Voralberg, northern Tirol and southern Bavaria. The grade range covered is IV - VII, although the emphasis is clearly on the lower end of this scale (in contrast to Best of Genuss Band 1, which covers the area of Austria around Salzburg). The most well-known areas covered are the Rätikon, the Wetterstein, the Karwendel and the Wilder Kaiser. Also included are the Tannheimer Tal, the area around the Hermann von Barth Hut, the Silvretta, the Verwall, and various other even less well-known areas.

The coverage of the better known areas is however a little sparse, with many well-known classics being left out, especially those of grade VI and harder. Set against this the guide includes many remote and little-known climbs which even many local climbers are unlikely to have heard of, while in the Rätikon, usually known as a hard climbs venue, numbers of climbs in the lower grades are described.

Each climb receives a topo, and text in German describes the approach and descent. The guide also has colour crag photos with routes marked, and colour climbing photos.
