what does boom mean?
 Wft 12 May 2014
In reply to The Pylon King:

It's an expression of joy or the sound of an explosion, dependant on context.

First used in it's literal 'bomb-noise' state by the great composer Timothy Westwood.

Isn't he just a DJ as apposed to a composer?

so i take it that it is 'street youth bangin' techno talk'?

Irritating, isn't it? Still, as long as it's confined to bouldering threads on here, it might just be tolerable.

The Pylon King 12 May 2014
In reply to Robert Durran:

Just genuinely curious to it's actual meaning and origin. Ive only ever heard it used by fairly young boulderer/sport climber/slackliner types who are into modern repetitive beats.

In reply to The Pylon King:

Firstly, huuuuuge congrats to Shauna!

Got to love UKC though: sterling effort put in from a top UK female climber, now a gold medal and on track to win the World Cup - you don't see that very often! Deserved congrats thread goes massively and stupidly O/T in six posts, brilliant - not to mention the irony of using the word 'irritating'

It was really just a matter of time. Now no breaky leggy.

Don't worry. That is what those big mats are for.

Maybe you and Piles Boy should leave threads like this well alone.

Do you ever consider that those who came before you may have thought the same about your generations choice of vernacular?

How good must that feel? Well done Shauna

You may have a point there. Though my comment about the mat was a genuine attempt at humour. Still, if UKC has any charm, it is in the way threads can wander and in upholding a traditional and good natured lack of reverence for pedestals (though, in this case, as in many, it was clearly a very fine effort). Anyway, I'll go away now.

The guys back in iso could see the heads above the wall and there was a bit of waving and thumbs up going on

However, it makes for more entertaining reading than 100 more or less identical posts along the lines of "well done Shauna", which is actually pretty tedious stuff.

And a creator of erm... banging tunes*. (Sudden flashback to the Not the Nine O'Clock News "Gramophone" sketch.)

*Dance music. (Which is basically music that's been filtered through a f*ckwit.)

BTW. A lot of the time I think "boom!" is estuary oaf for "voila!".

Younster Fun Kill?

That was a genuinely surprising enough google result that I had to post the answer. Still none the wiser.

NOTE: Why can't I post a reply with just capitals, UKC? Too much pointless validation.
