About the Forums

These discussion forums are hosted on UKHillwalking.com. There are 17 forums covering a variety of different topics - read Forum Descriptions for more details. To post on the forums you should first become a registered user. Some of the forums allow postings from unregistered users but these may be removed by the moderators if they are completely anonymous - read more about our Posting Guidelines.

Becoming a Registered User

To Register as a New User, you'll enter your chosen user name, your preferred email address and a password. We will immediately create an account for you, and send you a confirmation email with a single click link in it to activate your registration. You will then have full access to the forums, photo galleries and other parts of the site.

What are the benefits of being a Registered User?

  • Post as a registered user. Registered user names are shown in bold, and as well as letting readers of the forums know it is really you, and not someone pretending to be you, you can also have a link from each of your posts to your User Profile and build up a posting record.
  • Setup your favourite forum preferences. Create a personalised Forums Latest page with only messages from forums that you are interested in.
  • Keep track of new and old messages. Each time you come back, you can choose to be shown only messages that are new since your last visit. With over 1,500 new posts every day, this feature makes browsing the forums much faster and downloads quicker.
  • Create your own User Profile. Tell the world about your likes, dislikes, favourite routes, etc. Put in as much, or as little detail as you want.
  • Create your own Photo Gallery. Upload your climbing photos for everyone to see. You also have the option of allowing people to leave comments about your photos.
  • Create your own Logbook. Keep a detailed logbook of all your climbs.
  • Give yourself better privacy. As a registered user, you will not have your computer's IP address listed next to your postings, and your email address is safely hidden which stops spam bots from sending you junk email. You can also set an option so that you appear as 'Hidden' on the list of users currently online, and even choose not to accept email from other users on the site.
  • Access all parts of the site. Registered users have full access to all features on the site, including full size versions of all the photos on the site, and the vast database of old forum messages.

UKHillwalking.com is a free to access site but it costs many thousands of pounds each year to run and develop. By registering on the site you help build up our user statistics which make the site more appealing to potential advertisers - so the more people using the site, the more advertising revenue we can spend on making the site even bigger and better.
