It is a joy to view the latest photographs each week at UKC/UKH uploaded by climbers, mountaineers and hillwalkers in the UK and beyond, and see what they have been up to; not only are many pleasing to the eye and of professional quality, but they provide inspiration for us all to get out there and to get on with it.
Each week you can see the best images, as voted by you, at UKC/UKH Top Photos which are also featured on our Top Photos iPhone App - which will soon be available for Android devices.
This year sees the first annual UKC/UKH Mountain Photography Awards (2011) presented by Berghaus, with additional sponsorship from F-stop and Rockfax guidebooks.
Prizes will be awarded for the three Best Photographers at UKC/UKH and single category winners from the 14 photo category galleries.
The Judges
The awards have been judged first by you when you rate a photograph in the galleries. This creates the final selection which is being judged by professional climber and adventurer Leo Houlding, representing Berghaus, BMC Summit magazine editor and professional photographer Alex Messenger and UKC/UKH Editors Jack Geldard and Dan Bailey. The judges will be looking at a photographs composition, point or points of interest, focus, exposure, light, colour, texture, eye path, storytelling, creativity, emotion and that gut feeling that an image has made an impact. Photographs being considered are those that were uploaded in 2011.
Leo, just back from Venezuela, is making the final selection now and we will announce the winners in March.
The awards are being presented by Berghaus who also sponsor the UKC/UKH Photo Galleries and the Top Photos App, with additional sponsorship from F-stop and Rockfax guidebooks.
