Unknown Rock: the relatives of this walker are keen to identify where this photo was taken. Does anyone recognise it?

A friend sent me this and asked if I knew where it was taken. I've no idea, but thought I'd post it here in case someone else can help.

Certainly looks like gritstone, but that's not going to narrow it down much. Do you have any other photos or info that could help?

Is that bump on the left a summit cairn?

Has anyone else noticed the very realistic looking face on the left of the boulder? I wonder if it's a named feature. The 'eye' looks worn (unless the bloke had just chalked it for his send). If it's worn from nailed boots and it's right on the edge of an escarpment I'd hazard a guess that it's possibly on Kinder or similar?

Possibly the face on the boulder is the reason for the photo. Possibly a posting on the forums to bring the photo to wider attention maybe a plan.

The photo arrived at me via a circuitous route that included the Ramblers Association and I don't have any other pics. I'm sure that the pose alongside the face in the rock was deliberate. It looks like grit to me but I can't think of anywhere on my main stamping ground in the dark peak. I wondered if it was further north in Yorkshire (Brimham?) or even the North Yorks. Moors.

You could try the Geograph site. There are a lot of people on there who are excellent at locating obscure sites and features.

Could be on Stanton Moor in Derbyshire.
