Yeah, echoed around the valley a lot like thunder...we heard the noise a good few seconds before we actually saw it. It wiped out a path we'd walked along an hour or so earlier, on top of the pile of moraine at the bottom right of the photo.
Not exactly a close call, but food for thought.

Stunning photo. Would have been so even without the avalanche to draw the eye. Do you think that you presence underneath it early might have been a catalyst, or were you way too far out for that?

I don't think we made any difference. It was probably caused by a combination of high temperatures and the fact that there was a lot of loose, fresh snow higher up left over from the rainy season (we were trekking at the start of the dry season).
That face seemed pretty unstable, we saw quite a few avalanches on it from mid-morning onwards.
