To place pegs. Back in those days there weren't any friends or rocks, and only one choice of climbing shoe. The EB. But possibly, it as good as any other deterrent against the midges ;-(

Great shot and sums up Etive slabs nicely. Beautiful backdrop, brilliant granite and bits of heather in between!

It's a piton hammer. Still got mine. Can be very useful when replacing washing machine drum.
