Parrot (and Owner) Rescued from Eryri

During a busy Monday for the Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue Organisation, one call-out proved to be something completely different, when the team was alerted to the plight of a parrot owner stuck on the cliffs of Glyder Fawr in Cwm Idwal.

It seems a visiting group of parrot enthusiasts from Derbyshire were flying their birds in the cwm when a local peregrine - no doubt spotting an attractive potential meal - attacked.

One flew off, and in an attempt to make sure her pet did not become an ex-parrot, the owner climbed to a precarious perch to retrieve it.

"Unfortunately the parrot decided freedom was great" say the OVMRO on a Facebook post, "and flew back down to the group unassisted, leaving the owner and her second bird now stuck."

"To a barrage of parrot jokes from Maritime and Coastguard Agency and teams in North Wales Mountain Rescue Association, a hill party climbed up to the base of the cliffs and belayed a team member up to her location to make her safe.

"On arrival at the casualty, Jeckyll, the second parrot, perched on her owners' rucksack, greeted our team member with a "Hello"! Once safely on belay, both parrot and owner were lowered to safe ground before being guided down off the mountain."

It appears drones and paragliders may no longer be the only airborne irritant to climbers and scramblers in Ogwen.
