Highland estate managers have been given the go-ahead to use land mines in an attempt to bring down deer numbers, widely considered to be out of control in the Scottish highlands. The knock-on benefit, according to landowners, will be a reduction in visitor footfall.

I am concerned the purported benefits of reduced ‘foot fall’ may in fact back-fire and become an increase..

It is a good means to keep people on the paths though, or protect out of bounds crags in nesting season.

Won't that interfere with the reintroduction of mammoths in Fisherdale?

Sometimes I like to wild camp whilst I hike up Mount Snowdon on my way to send a free climb. What's wrong with that?

This is a disgrace.
The Landmine Monitor 2022 reports 4710 casualties of land mines, 49% of whom were children.
Still think landmines are funny?

Shame on you, BMC.

I agree - very poor taste. Not funny at all.

I'd rather laugh at a landmine than tread on one! Cheers.

It may have escaped your notice but certain regimes (and I emphasise this word), are "tooling up". 'Tis no time for wokery. Cheers.

As far as funny as UKC's April's Fools articles go, I guess once the Daily Heil or The Smut gets a sniff of it, we should get all get some EOD training ASAP. It never pays off giving the fuuckers any ideas...

Thankfully, nut‑removal tools might work quite well for landmine probing if adjusted just a bit – most removal tools should work just as well for EOD probing...

If you've slipped on a VDiff, this positive evolution to land management strategy might actually be a positive contribution to the climbing community

In a past life I worked in the landmine/UXO clearance realm so spent a fair bit of time at the sharp-end of that experience. They're definitely not funny.

But I see nothing wrong with an April 1st joke being made about them. Nor I expect would anyone else I worked with (we often did ourselves). Those maimed and blinded by their encounters seldom seemed averse to making light of them too, however traumatic their experiences had been.
