We are about to down size homes and things must go. I have a collection of old Climbing guides & mountaineering books which some were my fathers and an Uncle. The guides are all about 1950's and some 70's. The mountaineering books start at about 1938 up until 1981, I think. I'm not sure what to with them or where I could sell them on. Any advise would be helpful.

Oxfam books will probably be interested. When her husband died my sister gave them his immense collection of jazz related biographies and histories, some collectibles among them. Not only did they make money for the charity but sent her cheques every now and then for half the value of what they'd sold so far! An unexpected gesture which she returned by giving 'em the money back.

A list would be more useful.

For books with an ISBN  you could have a look at Ziffit.com.    The website will tell you which books they will buy, you package and leave at a drop box and  they arrange collection. We found it an effective way of disposing of some of a relatives books, the rest we gave to Oxfam. ( Ziffit is owned by World of Books).

My suggestion would be to contact some of the specialist mountain book sellers. They might be interested in buying some/all of the books themselves, or otherwise might provide guidance, or suggest reasonable valuations.

Here are two, for a start:

If you wish to donate them may I recommend the Mountain Heritage Trust where the books could either be added to the collection or sold to raise funds for the charity.
