Like you, video post is a bit a mystery to me at the mo ....
What I have been doing on my Hero3Black (which seems about right according to the article) is shooting 1080P-60 in Protune mode, processing Protune MP4 through the Free GoPro CINEformStudio software (used to be $199, now free) with default Protune Correction Filter to give final MP4s that I then edit with in Power Director-11.
Perhaps upgrading to the Premium CineformStudio ($299) (Pro software is $999!!) to edit the GoPro Protune MP4 could also produce further improvement/flexibility in outputs and sharpness from the original Protune files (which I guess can be thought of as GoPro RAW equivalents - in so much as they need processing to get the most out of them).
