Walkers are being encouraged to name their favourite bits of the Cleveland Way and Yorkshire Wolds Way National Trails, for a new North York Moors National Park Authority project which aims to come up with a list of the 'top ten' highlights of both these popular long-distance routes.
These ten highlights will then be used to help promote the routes, showcasing both popular destinations and hidden gems [hitherto hidden, at any rate - Ed].
The project aims to attract new visitors, benefit local businesses and help people explore the landscape in new ways, claims the National Park.
According to Malcolm Hodgson, National Trails Officer for the National Park Authority:
'The Cleveland Way and Yorkshire Wolds Way offer fantastic opportunities for people to get out and explore the iconic landscape of the North York Moors National Park and the Yorkshire Wolds. Both routes are already popular with walkers, but they also offer superb days out for people who might not normally choose to go walking. There's lots to see and do along the trails, and the project hopes to highlight some of the best attractions on offer.'
They are keen to hear about your own personal highlights of either route - it could be a favourite stretch of either trail, a picnic spot, a cherished view, a historic site or even a pub.
Suggestions can be made on the Facebook pages of the Cleveland Way and Yorkshire Wolds Way, or to Malcolm Hodgson by by email, and must be received by 15 February. Five participants will get a Cleveland Way National Trail guide, by lucky dip.
