"The stags were making themselves heard as I opened the van door and headed into the darkness" says film maker Murray Wilkie, who shot this short video on a recent dawn trip in Glen Coe.

"There is something special about heading into the night for a hike but on this occasion I was in a race with the daylight as I was wanting to reach the summit before sunrise. As I walked, following the small patch of light created by my headtorch the sounds of the deer were now accompanied by their demon-like eyes watching me every time my head torch flashed past them in the darkness - a bit unnerving (especially this close to Halloween.

"As the morning started to appear, so did the silhouetted mountains and the twinkling stars started to fade from the sky. Not far to the summit now but I wasn't sure if I was going to make it for sunrise. The verglas and sprinkle of snow ensured I couldn't walk any faster to the top, however with ten minutes to spare I reached the summit cairn, settled down to watch and film a glorious sunrise over the mountains of Glen Coe. A rather fabulous experience."

"The day was now growing into one of those clear, crisp fine Autumnal days so I decided to head to the neighboring summit to enjoy the slightly white tops before the sun melted any signs of winter away. A great hike was had."
