The area around Stout point has variety of sport climbing. From the super steep cave found on the point itself, to the verticle walls nr the the fisherman's descent. As such it now has a huge grade span, currently 4 -7c+.
The whole area is tidal with the main cave being the most suseptable to this. In fact on the dirty vert walls and fisherman's descent cave it only at the very top of high tide that you can't climb. And on smaller tides you can climb all day.
Tidal notes for main cave.
Super Steep cave climbing on predominantly good holds. Access around into the crag is generally cut off around 2.5 - 3 hours after low tide giving up to a 6hr window. Abseil stakes above the crag can extend your climbing window by at least 1hr. It is possible to climb throughout the tide during neap tides. Any swell may cut off access earlier.
Best approuched from the Llantwitt Major beach car park, Cafe and ammenities availble. Walk East along the coastal path over the small hill, once you decend the other side into the next bay the point is visible in the distance. There is a scramble down about 300m shy of the point itself, this is the fisherman's ledge approach.
Directly under the ledges is a small cave, the fishermen's ledge cave
If you walk along the beach in a westerly direction you find the 'dirty vert walls'
Walk along the beach east for 'westwing' and continue around the point for the main cave.
