Information from the SMC 2023 Lowland Outcrops Climbers' Guides.

Whilst small, this is a friendly little crag that's great for beginners with easy access and good views. 

 

Approach notes

Directions: From the A91 in Menstrie go up the Park Road, turn left on Ochil Road and park near the Scout Hall, just before the bridge. 

Public Transport: The Stirling to Alloa bus will get you to Menstrie Main Street. From here a short walk past the war memorial will get you to the old bridge. 

Approach: Cross the bridge and turn right up the concrete steps. A few minutes following a steep hill path leads to the crag on the left,  just below the water works.

Really nice crag. Very little loose rock and plenty of gear on all routes except Wallace wall and right edge. All routes felt a grade easier than topo although initial moves on the VSs were maybe too hard for HS.

Pleasant spot. Since this crag clearly gets a lot of use by beginners I think it may be worth mentioning that, at least in my opinion, the routes here are presently significantly overgraded - there is nothing here harder than Severe. Someone without experience of 'VS' any where else could get very nasty shock at another crag.

Please stop 'cleaning' this crag. It was never vegetated and the removal of surrounding turf and loose holds just reveals more loose rock and soil underneath. Way too much attention for this tiny, yet pleasant bit of rock.

Crag cleaned again for this Year. Routes have change due to loose rock. Enjoy

Comparing the topo photo with the present condition of the crag I would say that the guys who cleaned this crag done a sterling job. The rock is very clean and free from grass, moss and dirt now. A very pleasant place to climb for a few hours.
