The crag in the middle of Appleby! A very worthwhile little sports crag that typically of the area, is quite minor but also quite idyllic, with good picnic potential and nice short routes. Now sporting some slightly harder lines to go at, courtesy of Neil Davies and Dave Allen.
Access from the car park besides the River Eden, which is reached by turning right at the Royal Oak in Appleby and following the road downhill. The crag can be seen from the car park.
The crag is on private land and access has been granted on the following conditions:
No dogs allowed in the field below the crag. Access is fragile.
Access is available for bone fide climbers
Any livestock should not be disturbed
The gate is left closed
No litter
No damage to the property

Really nice crag with some great routes up it. You might want to bring a brush as some of the holds can be quite dusty. Ethan Thomas - 30/May/12 |

A surprisingly good crag. The main wall offering the better rock and routes. Some of the easy stuff to right is a bit contrived and dirty and all the holds are a bit sandy. But if are local, or its wet in the Lakes its worth a go. (if the rock is at all wet or has been stay away as it'll crumble) The grades are a bit soft touch so don't put off if you are a VS/HVS leader, you'll love it. mikemontain - 28/Mar/11 |
