A selection of buttresses in a tranquil, and wild moorland setting. Clean, good quality rock, well worth an evening visit. The routes are generally short and sweet, but with an almost inevitable grittiness on some of the harder routes.
The crags face west and get sunshine from early afternoon into the late evening. Being relatively high up they also benefit from a nice breeze.
There is extensive parking by Crowden Youth Hostel in Longdendale. Follow the Pennine Way, but keep to right-hand side of Crowden Great Brook when the main path cross over. It is quite easy to overshoot by approaching too high and not seeing the crags, since they nestle just below the moor edge.
