Climbs 24
Rocktype Limestone
Altitude 2400m a.s.l
Faces W
200 Meters of 60-65 degree Multipitch slab climbing.
Most Belays are bolted, but a full trad rack will be necessary.
Routes on Lunar Slab can be finished at the large fault (Avens Avenue), but why bother- the final pitches are worth the effort to gain the top.
Decent is by abseil. 50+m half ropes are essential.
Some single pitch sport routes exist on the right hand side of Lunar Slab. They are still 50m long, but there is a pair of bolts at 25m on 'Scary Monsters'
Classic Climbs:
Moon Shadow 5.10c 5P Trad
Lunatic Fringe 5.11b 3P Sport (possible 4th 11a trad pitch)
Park at Mud Lake Parking on highway 742, 45km south of Canmore. Follow the Burstall Pass Trail for aproximately 2 hours/6km fording Burstall Creek at 4km. Follow the contours left before the pass as you see the slabs, approaching from directly below.
Due to the altitude snow may remain on the approach into July.
