Vintjan Quarry © katherinesydney
Vinkuran is situated in the oldest quary in Croatia. Stone queried from Vinkuran was used to build the Roman coliseum in nearby Pula, many of Pula's oldest buildings are also built from stone that was quarried here.
Sectors A and B are the most well maintained (see below)
Shade can be found here at any time of day, all year round, but many of the routes have unfortunately been neglected and fallen into a state of disrepair. There is also talk of a commercial venture that will turn the quary into a tourist attraction, which could potentially see the end of climbing here.
The climbing is split down into 4 Sectors. Sectors A and B are the most well maintained but it is still worth taking a spanner and checking the nuts on hangers.
Sector B provides magnificent climbing, generally in the shade on natural limestone with plenty of tufa features.
Follow Signs from Pula for Vintjan then Vinkuran. Park on the corner at the entrance to the Quary.
The small bolted wall on the right, 1min from the entrance, is Sector A. Opposite Sector A and usually in the shade is Sector B. In the main quary Sector C is on the left and Sector D occupies the far end and the right hand side.
Parking for several cars by the quarry entrance.
